Cruise Lady Bird Lake on a Vintage Electric Boat

We were looking for a fun and different way to explore Austin when we stumbled across Retro Boat Rentals; it delivers that in spades! It is exceptionally easy to book your adorable boat online and fill out the pertinent waivers required ahead of your visit. When we arrived, we were greeted by two exceptionally nice young men. Max, the dock hand who showed us the ropes, was very friendly and we appreciated his explanation of the boat, the areas to avoid and the "rules of the road". We got to cruising and, as it was a Thursday morning, had the water to ourselves. It was very peaceful and we were happy to spend the morning doing something so fun and relaxing. I was happy for the shaded canopy over the cute vessel "Ethel" and could see in the summer months having it be absolutely essential for enjoying the experience. Max was brilliant in his suggestions for lunch nearby and I would not hesitate to recommend this experience to friends and family. It would be so fun to do a photoshoot on these little jewel box boats!

We had a blast on a sunset ride! We took out “Lola,” and despite her speed cap of 5mph, she could really go. Mia set us up with everything we needed to know and Jensen helped us take off/re-dock; start to finish it was an amazing experience —we even saw a lot of bats! Highly recommend!

10/10 the best thing we’ve done in Austin so far! The whole fleet of boats are adorable. The weather was gorgeous (although HOT so bring sunscreen!). Seth was an awesome dock attendant— told us everything we needed to know and sent us on our way! Definitely would do again.

Me and my husband wanted something nice, romantic, and fun for our first day of our honeymoon week and this was perfect. Max helped us with all the information and explained things in a way beginners can understand. We got the baby pink boat and since it doesn’t have a built in shade like other boats, Max gave us a matching baby pink umbrella 💕 Would highly recommend this almost 2 hour rental for couples who want some peace and quiet. And if you don’t like quiet, the boats have a Bluetooth speaker 😉

What an amazing time ! Our life revolves around our dog so we got the only dog friendly boat for our dog nuggets 1st ride. We went early because the sun was sun-ing. And I think there is a specific time where they rent it as dog friendly which is around spring break? (April) so plan accordingly. But even then it’s a beautiful lake. 10/10 will recommend!
